Plant Care Guide

Simple tips from Thunmareueythea to keep your indoor plants healthy and growing.

Light

Most houseplants prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid long hours of strong midday sun on the leaves. A spot near an east- or north-facing window often works well. If growth slows or leaves pale, try moving the plant closer to the light. Low-light tolerant plants, such as snake plant, can manage further from windows.

Watering

Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Use room-temperature water and water until it runs from the drainage holes, then empty the saucer so the pot does not sit in water. Reduce watering in autumn and winter when growth slows. Overwatering is a common cause of problems, so when in doubt, wait a day or two before watering again.

Humidity & Temperature

Indoor plants generally like the same temperatures as we do: roughly 18–24°C. Avoid placing plants near radiators or cold draughts. In dry, heated rooms, grouping plants or using a tray of water and pebbles can add a little humidity. Misting can help some species but is not a substitute for proper watering.

Feeding

Feed during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted as directed. Most plants need feeding every four to six weeks when they are actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding in autumn and winter. Too much fertiliser can harm roots and leaves, so follow the product instructions.

Repotting

When roots fill the pot or grow out of the drainage holes, it is time to repot. Choose a pot one size larger and use fresh, well-draining compost. Spring is the best time for repotting. After repotting, water lightly and keep the plant in stable conditions so it can settle in.

Common Issues

Yellow leaves can mean overwatering, poor drainage, or natural ageing. Brown leaf tips often indicate dry air or inconsistent watering. Dropping leaves may be due to a change in position, draughts, or watering issues. If you are unsure, get in touch and we can suggest simple steps for your plant.
